Slippery Elms - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. brown sugar
    2 c. white sugar
    5 c. vinegar
    1 1/2 c. water
    5 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 tsp. turmeric
    4 qt. ripe cucumbers
    salt
Preparation
    Peel and quarter ripe cucumbers.
    Remove seeds and put in large pan with 1/2 cup salt.
    Let set overnight.
    Drain and pour hot water over them and drain again.
    Cook until tender in following mixture:
    brown sugar, white sugar, vinegar, hot water, mustard seed and turmeric.
    Put in jars while hot.
    Turn over to seal.
