Ingredients

2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. soft shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1/2 c. evaporated milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. maraschino cherries
2 c. coconut
Preparation

Sift together onto waxed paper flour, baking powder and salt. Mix in bowl shortening and sugar.
Add egg and beat hard.
Stir in milk and vanilla.
Add flour mixture and mix well.
Stir in finely cut maraschino cherries.
Shape dough into balls using about a tablespoon of dough for each ball.
Roll balls in chopped-shredded coconut.
Place on greased baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
Set oven at 375\u00b0.
Bake on even rack slightly below center for 12 minutes or until light brown.
Remove from oven at once.
Do not overbake.
Makes about 4 dozen cookies.
