Kosher Dill Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. medium cukes
    4 c. vinegar
    1 c. salt
    3 qt. water
    4 sprigs dill
    1 clove garlic
    1 piece red pepper
Preparation
    Sterilize the jars for 5 minutes.
    Wash pickling cukes. Let stand in
    water
    for
    2
    hours.
    Put
    2
    sprigs of dill in bottom of\tquart
    jar.
    Pack
    cukes
    in
    jar.
    Add 2 pieces of garlic and a
    piece
    of red pepper.
    On top of each jar, put 2 sprigs of dill and a sprinkle of alum.
    Combine vinegar, salt and water and bring
    to a boil.
    Fill jars and seal.
    Makes 7 quarts.
