Aunt Nellie'S Applesauce Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 pt. watermelon preserves
    1 pkg. citron fruits
    1 bottle maraschino cherries
    1/2 c. raisins
    3/4 c. currants
    1/2 c. water
    3/4 c. sugar
    rind of 2 lemons
    2 oranges
    1 to 2 c. chopped walnuts
    1 c. candied orange peel
    1/4 c. more oil
    2 eggs
    2 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. butter
    2/3 c. sour milk (or buttermilk)
    1 tsp. soda, dissolved in milk
    1 little brick chocolate
    2/3 c. boiling water
    3 c. flour
    2 c. brown sugar
    1/3 c. butter
    2/3 c. cream or milk
    1 brick chocolate, melted
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. flour
    2 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/3 c. melted butter
    1 egg
    1 c. ripe, mashed persimmons (about 2 1/2 persimmons)
    1/2 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. milk
Preparation
    Use \"dead ripe\" persimmons and put through a strainer.
    Sift together all dry ingredients; stir in remaining ingredients. Place in dessert mold and cover with greased or waxed paper and then in kettle with sufficient water, cover tightly and steam for 1 to 3 hours.
    (Or place pudding in top pan of double boiler, cover with aluminum foil, then the lid and steam for 1 1/2 hours.)
