Mandarin Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1 c. flour
    1 egg
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. soda
    1 can mandarin oranges, do not drain
    1/2 c. nuts (optional)
Preparation
    Mix all ingredients together in one bowl.
    Pour into ungreased 9 x 9-inch pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 30 to 35 minutes.
    When cake is done, poke holes in top of cake.
    While still hot, pour topping over cake.
    Let cool and serve.
