Cabbage Burger Bake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
1 small head cabbage (about 2 lb.)
    6 slices bacon
    1 medium size onion, chopped (1/2 c.)
    1 c. uncooked rice
    1 lb. ground beef
    1/2 lb. ground pork
    1 tsp. pepper
1 can (about 15 oz.) spaghetti sauce with mushrooms
    3 c. water
Preparation
Quarter and shred cabbage (you should have about 8 cups). Spread half in buttered, shallow, 12-cup baking dish.
Saute bacon just until fat starts to cook out in a large frying pan.
Remove; drain and set aside for later.
Stir onion and rice into bacon drippings in frying pan; cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat until onion is soft and rice is lightly browned.
Spoon over cabbage in baking dish.
Shape ground beef and pork into 1 large patty in same frying pan.
Brown 5 minutes on each side, then break up into crumbs.
Cook, stirring often, a few minutes longer or until no pink remains.
Spoon over rice mixture in baking dish. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
    Top with remaining cabbage.
