Caramel Pie - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 eggs, separated
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 c. butter
    1 c. milk
    3 heaping Tbsp. flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Beat egg yolks and add milk.
    Mix 1/2 cup sugar with flour, getting out all lumps.
    Add to egg mixture. Warm in saucepan, stirring well.
    Caramelize the other 1/2 cup sugar in heavy skillet; brown, do not burn!
    Add butter to make a syrup.
    Pour this into other mixture.
    Cook until thick.
    Pour into prepared pie shell.
    Beat egg whites until stiff; put on top of pie.
