Hermit Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 eggs
    1 lb. sugar (2 c.)
    1 lb. butter (2 c.)
    1 1/4 lb. plain flour (5 c.)
    1 c. brandy
    2 lb. dates, cut
    1/2 lb. English walnuts, in pieces
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    juice of 1 lemon
    2 tsp. vanilla
    2 tsp. baking powder
Preparation
    Cream sugar and butter; add egg yolks, beating lightly.
    Add flour, baking powder and cinnamon, sifted together.
    Add brandy, nuts and dates; fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
    Bake at 325\u00b0 for 1 1/2 hours.
