Ingredients

4 large onions
6 c. water
3 c. white wine
1/4 tsp. each: salt and pepper
4 slices bread
2 Tbsp. flour
4 oz. butter
4 slices Swiss cheese
2 Tbsp. Parmesan cheese
Preparation

Peel the onions and chop roughly.
Melt the butter in the pan; fry the onions.
Once brown, sprinkle flour and stir well.
Pour wine and water over them; allow to boil.
In a large, ovenproof bowl, place 1 slice of bread, then 1 slice of cheese and so on. Pour the contents of the pan over the bread and cheese; cook in oven for 35 minutes at 325\u00b0.
Mix and serve.
Top with Parmesan cheese.
Makes 4 servings.
