Holiday Jam Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. shortening
    3 eggs
    1 c. buttermilk
    1 c. blackberry jam
    3 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. raisins
    1 c. coconut
    1 c. chopped dates
    1 large apple, grated
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and mix well.
    Add jam and buttermilk alternating with flour and soda.
    Add fruit and nuts last.
    Stir well.
    Bake in three greased and floured 9-inch pans for 30 to 40 minutes at 350\u00b0.
    Frost with filling for jam cake.
