Crested Gingerbread(Vintage Recipe 1937) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1 c. molasses
    2 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. ginger
    1 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. cloves
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 1/2 tsp. soda
    1/2 c. boiling water
    1/2 c. cold water
    1/2 c. Crisco or vegetable shortening
Preparation
    Cream together sugar, shortening, egg and molasses.
    Sift in flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, salt and soda; mix well.
    Add boiling water and beat until smooth.
    Add cold water and beat again.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 45 to 50 minutes.
