Candied Apples - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 c. water
    pinch of salt
    6 to 8 apples
    3/4 to 1 stick margarine or butter
Preparation
    Cook water and sugar to a thick syrup.
    Peel and quarter apples and put in pan.
    Add pinch of salt; pour syrup over apples.
    Slice margarine or butter over apples.
    Add 1/4 cup of red cinnamon candy hearts before cooking.
    This makes apples a pretty red color and adds flavor.
    Cook on top of stove on medium-low until clear (20 to 35 minutes).
    (Apples may be baked in a 350\u00b0 oven about 45 minutes, but tend to be slightly watery.)
    Make in a 9 1/2-inch round pan. Serves 8.
