Ingredients

2 c. flour
1/3 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. chopped dates
6 Tbsp. unsalted butter, chilled
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 egg
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. quick oats (optional)
Preparation

Stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Stir in dates.
In a small bowl, mix buttermilk, egg and vanilla.
Add buttermilk mixture to flour mixture and stir to combine.
