Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. milk
3 tsp. baking powder
2 egg whites, beaten
2/3 c. butter
2 egg yolks
3 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. boiling water
Preparation

Heat 1/2 cup sugar and boiling water until mixture measures 1/2 cup.
Cool.
Cream together 1 cup sugar and butter.
Add vanilla. Mix well egg yolks and milk.
Add syrup mixture and dry mixture. Fold in beaten egg whites.
Bake in 375\u00b0 oven for 30 to 35 minutes in either 8 x 12-inch pan or 2 layer pans.
