Poor Man'S Fruitcake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. box seedless raisins
    1 c. light brown sugar
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    3 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
    1/3 c. solid shortening
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 c. water
    3 c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 c. coarsely chopped nuts
    1 c. candied fruit (optional)
Preparation
    Measure first 8 ingredients into a large saucepan and simmer together over low heat for 5 minutes.
    Cool.
    Sift flour, baking powder and baking soda together.
    Add to first mixture.
    Fold in nuts and candied fruit.
    Pour into 2 loaf pans that have been greased and lined with wax paper or into a prepared tube pan. Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 to 1 1/4 hours, until cake tests done.
    If raisins and fruit on top of cake begin to brown too much, cover with foil.
    Serve plain or frosted or with a hard sauce or lemon sauce.
