Bread And Butter Pickles Number 1 - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    32 (4-inch) cucumbers or 52 (3 1/2-inch)
    8 small onions
    1 green pepper
    1 sweet red pepper
    1/2 c. coarse salt
    5 c. sugar
    1 1/2 tsp. turmeric
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    2 tsp. mustard seed
    2 tsp. celery seed
    5 c. vinegar
Preparation
    Slice vegetables thin.
    Add salt; cover with cracked ice and let stand 3 hours, stirring occasionally.
    Drain.
    Combine rest of ingredients and pour over vegetables.
    Bring to a boil and pack in hot, sterilized jars; seal.
    Makes 8 pints.
