Ingredients

3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. white sugar
1 c. shortening (white or butter flavored)
2 large eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. flour
1 (12 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
1 c. nuts, chopped (optional)
Preparation

Cream shortening, sugars and eggs.
Mix salt and baking soda into flour.
Add to creamed mixture.
Add chocolate chips.
Drop by large teaspoonfuls on greased baking sheet.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for approximately 10 minutes.
(Remove from oven when only starting to brown, cookies will be soft.)
If you let them brown completely, they will be hard.
Please do not substitute margarine or butter for the shortening.
It will change the texture.
These are also great with butterscotch or peanut butter chips.
