Sweet Pickles(14 Days) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 gal. cucumbers
    2 c. salt
    1 Tbsp. powdered alum
    5 pt. vinegar
    9 c. sugar
    1/2 oz. (5 tsp.) celery seed
    1 oz. (3 Tbsp.) cinnamon stick, broken
Preparation
    Into a clean stone jar put 2 gallons of cucumbers, washed and sliced lengthwise. Regardless of size, cucumbers must be sliced or they will shrivel. Dissolve 2 cups of salt in one gallon of boiling water and pour while hot over pickles. Then cover and weight down pickles and let stand for 1 week.
    Remove scum daily.
