Ingredients

1/2 c. white sugar
1/2 c. butter, softened
2 c. plain flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 c. pecans, chopped
1/2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
1 egg
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Preparation

Cream butter and sugars. Add egg and mix well. Sift flour before measuring. Sift all dry ingredients together and then add to sugar and egg mixture. Mix in vanilla. Fold in nuts. Turn dough out roughly two equal portions and roll up. Refrigerate dough overnight. Slice dough rolls into 1/4-inch slices and place on a greased cookie sheet. Bake for 10 minutes. Makes 2 to 3 dozen cookies.
