Chow-Chow Relish - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. chopped green tomatoes
    4 c. chopped cabbage
    2 c. chopped onions
    2 c. sweet red pepper, chopped and seeds removed
    1/2 c. pickling salt
    3 Tbsp. mustard seed
    2 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 Tbsp. pickling spice
    1 tsp. turmeric
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    4 c. vinegar
    9 c. water
Preparation
    Mix vegetables together.
    Dissolve salt in 8 cups of water and pour over vegetables.
    Let stand in cool place overnight, then drain.
    If too salty, rinse and drain again.
    Tie spices in cheesecloth.
    Add to vinegar and 1 cup water.
    Let simmer 5 minutes.
    Add sugar; stir until dissolved.
    Add vegetables and simmer for 15 minutes.
    Bring to a boil and pack boiling ingredients in hot jars and seal.
