Date Loaf - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 oz. dates
    1 tsp. bicarbonate of soda
    8 fluid oz. boiling water
    2 Tbsp. margarine
    6 oz. sugar
    1 egg
    7 oz. flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. mixed spice
Preparation
    Soak together the dates, bicarbonate of soda and the boiling water.
    Cream margarine and sugar; beat in egg.
    Mix in flour and baking powder.
    Add drained date mixture and stir well.
    (Use liquid from date mixture until desired consistency.)
