Seven Layer Salad - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 head iceberg lettuce
    1 green pepper, diced or 3/4 c.
    1 c. chopped celery
    1 large onion, chopped or 1/2 c.
    1 (16 oz.) can peas, drained
    2 c. mayonnaise
    2 Tbsp. brown sugar
    1/2 c. shredded Cheddar cheese
    1/2 c. crisp bacon bits
Preparation
    Prepare salad in a large bowl.
    Add ingredients, one at a time, as given, each in a separate layer.
    Do not toss.
    Cover and refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.
