Grandfather Lee Christmas Fruit Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. vanilla (we sometimes use a bottle of rum extract)
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    2 eggs, well beaten
    3 1/2 c. flour
    3/4 c. soda
    5 Tbsp. milk
    1 pkg. chocolate chips
    nuts (2 c. or more)
    candied cherries and pineapple (we use 1 container of each)
Preparation
    Combine shortening, salt and extract and blend.
    Add sugar gradually and cream well.
    Add eggs and mix well.
    Sift flour and soda and add to creamed mixture, alternating with milk, mixing thoroughly.
    Add fruit and nuts and blend.
    Drop small rounds on cookie sheet.
    Bake at 375\u00b0.
    Makes 5 to 6 dozen.
