Cherokee Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. ground beef
    1 Tbsp. olive oil
    3/4 c. finely chopped onion
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. garlic powder
    1/8 tsp. thyme
    1/8 tsp. oregano
    1` (16 oz.) can tomatoes
    1 (10 3/4 oz.) can cream of mushroom soup
    1 c. instant rice
    3 slices American cheese, cut into 1/2 inch strips
Preparation
    Brown meat in olive oil.
    Add onions; cook until tender.
    Stir in ingredients in order given, except cheese.
    Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
    Spoon into a baking dish and top with cheese.
    Broil until cheese is melted.
