Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. all-purpose flour
    1 c. corn meal
    1 pinch salt
    1 pinch baking soda
    1 egg
    1 medium chopped onion (optional)
    buttermilk to moisten
Preparation
    Heat vegetable oil.
    Use a deep fat fryer or use approximately 2 inches of oil in a deep frying
    pan.
    Mix dry ingredients.
    Add egg and buttermilk until you reach a consistency that the mixture will hold its
    shape when rolled into a ball.
    Fold in chopped onion.
    Roll into 1 to 2 inch balls and drop into hot vegetable oil.
    Fry until golden brown.
    Serve hot.
