Christmas Custard(1 Gallon) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 qt. homogenized milk
    14 or 16 large eggs
    3 or 4 c. sugar (to your taste)
    3 or 4 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Pour 3 1/2 quarts milk into a kettle and place on a low burner on stove.
    Never let milk boil.
    Heat until, when a spoon is dipped slightly over the top of the milk, a little skin is formed on the spoon.
    While waiting for the milk to heat until it forms a skin, break eggs into a bowl or kettle.
    Stir (mix) with a spoon until all yolks are mixed thoroughly (do not use mixer).
