Fried Green Tomatoes - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    5 medium green tomatoes
    1/3 c. flour
    3/4 tsp. salt
    few dashes pepper
    1/4 c. shortening
Preparation
    Cut tomatoes into 1/2-inch crosswise slices.
    Mix flour, salt and pepper; dip both sides of tomato slices into mixture.
    Heat shortening in a skillet until sizzling hot; put in tomatoes and cook quickly until browned on underside.
    Turn tomatoes carefully; reduce heat and cook until thoroughly hot and soft through center. Remove to a hot platter and serve.
    Yield:
    4 servings.
