Pastry For 9-Inch Pie - cooking recipe
Ingredients
-
1 1/2 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
4 to 5 Tbsp. cold water
Preparation
-
Sift flour and salt into a bowl. Cut in shortening using a pastry blender or fork until the pieces are the size of small peas. (For extra tender pastry, cut half the shortening into the flour and salt until the mixture looks like cornmeal. Then cut in remaining shortening until the mixture looks like small peas.) Sprinkle 1 tablespoon water over part of
mixture. Gently toss with fork; push to side of bowl. Sprinkle next tablespoon of water over dry part; mix lightly. Push to moistened part at side. Repeat until all is moistened. Form into ball. Flatten ball on lightly floured surface. Roll from center to edge until dough is 1/8-inch thick. Fit pastry into 9-inch pie plate. Trim 1/2 to 1-inch beyond edge; fold under and flute. Prick bottom and sides well with a fork. Bake in 450\u00b0 oven for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden.
