Ingredients

3 c. white sugar
3/8 lb. Crisco (3/4 c.)
1 pt. honey (2 c.)
1/8 c. molasses
1 pt. (2 c.) water
1 heaping tsp. baking soda
14 c. sifted flour (then re-sift 3 times)
2 heaping tsp. each: cinnamon, allspice and anise seed
Preparation

Heat sugar, Crisco, honey and molasses in pan until shortening is melted.
Cook over low to medium heat and stir to prevent scorching or crystallizing.
