Favorite Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. beef chunks, cut in 1 1/2-inch cubes
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    4 c. water
    1 tsp. lemon juice
    1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
    1 large onion, sliced
    1 bay leaf
    salt to taste
    1/4 tsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. seasoned pepper or to taste
    1/2 tsp. paprika
    dash of allspice
    dash of cloves
    4 carrots, sliced
    1 (10 oz.) pkg. frozen mixed vegetables
    4 medium potatoes, diced
Preparation
    Brown meat in hot shortening in Dutch oven.
    Add water, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, onion, bay leaf and seasonings. Bring to a boil.
    Simmer, covered tightly, for 1 1/2 hours.
