Grandma Gongdon'S War Cake(Circa 1916) - cooking recipe

Ingredients

2 c. brown sugar
2 c. water
2 c. raisins
1 Tbsp. cinnamon (ground)
1 tsp. ground cloves
2 Tbsp. fat (shortening)
1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda

Preparation

Mix everything together, except the flour and soda.
Boil 5 minutes.
Cool.
When cool, add the flour and soda, sifted together.
Pour into a 9 x 13-inch pan.
Bake 45 to 55 minutes in 350\u00b0 oven.
