Chow Chow - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 gal. chopped cabbage
    12 onions
    12 green peppers
    12 red peppers
    2 qt. chopped green tomatoes
    5 c. sugar
    hot pepper to taste
    4 Tbsp. ground mustard
    1 Tbsp. turmeric
    1 Tbsp. ginger
    4 Tbsp. mustard seed
    3 Tbsp. celery seed
    2 Tbsp. whole mixed spices
    2 to 3 qt. vinegar
    1/2 c. salt
Preparation
    Finely chop onions and peppers. Mix all vegetables with salt. Let stand overnight. Drain well. Tie mixed spices in bag. Add sugar and spices to vinegar and simmer 20 minutes. Add other ingredients; simmer until hot. Remove spice bag. Put chow chow into hot jars and seal at once.
