Plain Doughnuts - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. soda
    2 tsp. cream of tartar
    1 egg
    2 Tbsp. melted butter
    approximately 1 1/2 c. milk (sweet)
Preparation
    Beat egg slightly.
    Add sugar and shortening.
    Sift dry ingredients together.
    Add alternately with milk to make a soft dough.
    Fry in hot fat at 350\u00b0.
    Cut and twist into figure eights. Great with maple syrup.
