Turnips Au Gratin Casserole - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. pared, cubed turnips (1 1/2 lb.)
    1 1/2 tsp. salt, divided
    2 Tbsp. flour
    1 1/2 c. milk
    1/2 c. dry bread crumbs
    1 tsp. sugar
    4 Tbsp. butter, divided
    1/8 tsp. ground white pepper
    3/4 c. grated sharp Cheddar cheese
Preparation
    In medium saucepan, bring 1-inch of water to boiling.
    Add turnips, sugar and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
    Cover and cook 12 minutes or until tender.
    Drain.
    Remove and set aside.
