Portuguese Sweet Bread (Pao Doce)(Makes 5 Large Round Loaves) - cooking recipe

1 c. milk
2 pkgs. yeast
1 1/4 c. lukewarm water
14 c. flour
2 1/2 tsp. salt
3 c. sugar
3 1/2 Tbsp. butter
10 eggs, slightly beaten
1/3 tsp. lemon extract
1 egg for brushing top
Preparation

Bring milk to a boil, dissolve yeast in warm water.
In a large bowl, sift flour, salt, and sugar.
Add butter and mix well. Add the beaten eggs, lemon extract, and yeast and mix well. Knead dough for 20 minutes, gradually adding milk as needed. Knead until no dough sticks to your hands.
Let rise in a pan until it doubles in size.
Push down, then shape into 5 round balls and place each in a greased pan.
Let rise until double in size.
Brush tops with whole beaten egg.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for one hour.
