Chow Mein - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 lb. pork, diced
    3/4 lb. veal, diced
    1/2 lb. beef, diced
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    6 Tbsp. soy sauce
    1 c. water
    1 large bunch celery, cut in 1/2-inch pieces
    1 small onion, chopped
    2 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1/4 c. water
    1 (10 1/2 oz.) can water chestnuts, sliced
    1 (No. 2) can bean sprouts, drained (2 1/2 c.)
    12 oz. can mushrooms
    salt and pepper
Preparation
    Brown meats in hot fat; add soy sauce and 1 cup water.
    Simmer 2 minutes.
    Add celery and onion; simmer 1 1/2 hours.
    Blend cornstarch and water; stir into meat mixture.
    Add chestnuts, bean sprouts and mushrooms; heat through.
    Season.
    Serve over cooked rice.
