Old-Fashioned Butter Crunch - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 to 2 c. slivered almonds, toasted
    1 c. butter
    1 1/4 c. sugar
    2 Tbsp. light corn syrup
    2 Tbsp. water
    12 oz. chocolate chips
Preparation
    Toast almonds at 350\u00b0 until golden, 5 to 10 minutes.
    Cool. Reserve 1 cup and blend to almost dust (1/2 to 1 cup).
    Melt butter in a large, heavy saucepan on medium heat (3-quart pan).
    Cook the sugar, corn syrup and water to hard crack stage (300\u00b0).
    Stir often.
    When done, mixture will pull from side of pan.
    Remove from heat.
    Add 1 cup slivered almonds.
    Pour into a 13 x 9-inch buttered Teflon type pan.
    When almost cool, run scraper around sides of pan; use heat resistant scraper.
    Cool completely and turn out on waxed paper.
