Date Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. dates, stoned
    1 1/2 c. boiling water
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    1 1/2 c. sugar
    1 tsp. salt
    1 egg
    2 3/4 c. pastry flour
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. cream of tartar
    1 c. walnut meats
    1 tsp. vanilla
Preparation
    Cut dates in quarters and pour boiling water over them.
    Add shortening, sugar and salt.
    When cool, add beaten egg, flour sifted with soda and cream of tartar, nuts and vanilla.
    Beat well.
    Pour into greased and floured bread pan.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 1 1/4 hours.
    Watch oven; do not get too hot.
