California Rice And Chilies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. cooked rice (not instant)
    1/4 c. butter
    1 c. chopped onion
    2 c. sour cream
    1/2 to 1 (4 oz.) jar chopped green chilies (these may be hot, so use accordingly)
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    1 c. cottage cheese
    2 c. grated Cheddar cheese
Preparation
    Cook rice.
    Brown onion in butter until transparent.
    Add cooked rice, sour cream, green chilies, salt and pepper.
    Grease a large 2 1/2-quart casserole or baking dish and layer: one-half of rice mixture, 1/2 cottage cheese, 1/2 Cheddar cheese.
    Repeat layers.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 30 to 40 minutes.
    Can be made ahead and frozen.
