Cherry Nut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 tsp. lemon extract
    1 1/4 c. sugar
    2 eggs, separate
    2 c. flour
    2 1/2 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/3 c. milk
    1 jar (5 oz.) maraschino cherries, drained and chopped, reserve juice
    1/3 c. cherry juice
    1/2 c. nuts
Preparation
    Cream together shortening and lemon extract, add sugar and beat until fluffy.
    Add egg yolks and beat well after each addition.
    Sift together dry ingredients 2 times.
    Add liquids and dry ingredients alternately to creamed mixture, beating only until smooth after each addition.
    Stir in nuts and cherries.
    Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 25 minutes.
