Peach Crisp - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sliced fresh or canned peaches
    1/4 c. butter or margarine, softened
    1 3/4 c. sugar, divided
    1 c. all-purpose flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. milk
    1 Tbsp. cornstarch
    1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
    1 c. boiling water
    whipped cream or ice cream (optional)
Preparation
    Place peach slices in an 8 x 8-inch square pan.
    Cream the butter and 3/4 cup sugar. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk.
    Spoon mixture over fruit. Sift together 1 cup sugar, cornstarch and nutmeg.
    Sprinkle over batter.
    Pour water over top.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 60 minutes. Makes 6 servings.
