Ingredients

1 1/2 c. milk
1 1/2 Tbsp. shortening, melted
1 yeast cake, dissolved in 1/3 c. lukewarm water
1/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. salt
about 4 1/2 c. flour
hot fat for frying
Preparation

Dissolve yeast in 1/3 cup lukewarm water.
Scald milk and, when cool, add dissolved yeast and rest of ingredients.
Let rise until double in bulk.
Place on board; roll out and cut.
Let doughnuts rise about 3/4 hour and fry in hot fat.
