Lemon Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs, beaten
    1 1/4 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 c. milk
    1/2 c. finely chopped nuts (optional)
    grated peel of 1 lemon (optional)
    1/4 c. sugar
    juice of 1 lemon
Preparation
    Cream shortening and sugar until fluffy with mixer, about 7 minutes.
    Add eggs, beating well.
    Add salt and baking powder alternately with milk.
    For more lemon flavor, replace some of the milk with lemon juice.
    Mix in nuts and peel.
    Bake in waxed paper-lined, greased loaf pan for 40 to 50 minutes at 350\u00b0.
    Watch carefully so it doesn't burn.
    Combine 1/4 cup sugar and lemon juice; pour over bread after it is removed from the pan.
    The texture of this is more like cake than bread.
