Ingredients

1 c. butter, softened
2 c. sugar
4 eggs, separated (beat egg whites stiff)
2 c. blackberry jam (seedless)
3 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground allspice
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 c. buttermilk
1 1/2 c. chopped pecans
1 1/2 c. raisins
1 1/2 c. dates
1 1/2 c. maraschino cherries, chopped
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. mixed candied fruit mix
Preparation

Cream the sugar and butter in a mixing bowl.
Add egg yolks and beat well.
Stir in vanilla, milk and jam.
Add all dry ingredients and beat with mixer.
Add fruit and nuts.
Fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.
Makes 3 layers.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 25 to 30 minutes, then cover with foil.
Bake 30 more minutes.
