Bread And Butter Pickles - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 lb. cucumbers
    1/2 gal. vinegar
    5 lb. sugar
    1 Tbsp. mustard seed
    1 Tbsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. turmeric
    3 Tbsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. ground red pepper
    2 c. lime (can be found in canning section of grocery store)
Preparation
    Wash cucumbers; slice crosswise.
    Soak the sliced cucumbers in a mixture of 2 gallons of water to 2 cups of lime for 24 hours. Drain and rinse cucumbers.
    Remove all lime residue.
    Soak the cucumbers in clear water for 3 hours.
    Heat vinegar, spices (tied up in a cloth), sugar and salt.
    Pour over cucumbers.
    Let stand overnight.
    Boil for 25 minutes the next morning; place in sterile, hot jars and seal.
