Old Fashioned Slaw - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 medium head cabbage, shredded
    1/2 c. chopped celery
    1/2 c. chopped sweet pickle
    1/4 c. mayonnaise
    3 medium carrots, shredded
    2 green onions, chopped
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1/4 c. butter or margarine
    1/2 c. sweet pickle juice
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1 egg, beaten
Preparation
    Combine cabbage, celery, sweet pickle, mayonnaise, carrots, green onions and celery seed in a large bowl.
    Set aside.
    Melt butter in a heavy saucepan.
    Add pickle juice, salt and pepper; stir well.
    Gradually stir about 1/4 of hot mixture into egg; add to remaining hot mixture, stirring constantly with a wire whisk. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened.
    Add dressing to cabbage mixture; mix well.
    Chill 1 to 2 hours before serving.
