English Taffy Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter or margarine
    1 c. sugar
    yolk of 1 egg (save the white)
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 c. flour (plain)
    1 c. chopped pecans
Preparation
    Cream together butter or margarine and sugar.
    Add egg yolk and vanilla.
    Add flour; mix well.
    Usually I wash hands very well, then mix dough with your hands; it is easier.
    Grease a cookie sheet (large) and pat dough very thin.
    Whip the egg white with a fork until frothy.
    Spread on top of dough with your hand. Sprinkle with 1 cup chopped pecans.
    Pat slightly to press pecans down a little.
    Bake at 300\u00b0 for approximately 40 to 45 minutes. Cut at once in squares or rectangles.
    This recipe is great at Christmas!
