Chicken And Dumplings - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 Tbsp. shortening or lard
    1 1/2 c. sifted flour
    1 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. soda
    pinch of sugar
    1/2 c. buttermilk
    1 egg, beaten
    1 large fryer, cut into pieces
    2 c. chicken stock (unsalted)
    2 c. water
    2 Tbsp. butter
    black pepper and salt to taste
    1/4 to 1 c. milk
Preparation
    Cut shortening into flour.
    Combine 1 teaspoon salt, soda and sugar with flour.
    Make a well in center of flour.
    Add buttermilk and egg; mix as for biscuits.
    Roll into a ball.
    Put in freezer while chicken is cooking.
    Simmer, do not boil, seasoned chicken in water and stock until tender.
    Skin and debone chicken; set aside.
