Sopaipillas - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    3/4 c. cold water
    oil (for frying)
Preparation
    Combine dry ingredients in a bowl.
    Cut in shortening with a pastry blender until mealy.
    Add water, a tablespoon at a time, and toss with a fork to blend.
    Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead until smooth.
    Roll out as thin as possible. Cut into 2 or 3-inch squares and fry in hot oil, 370\u00b0, until puffed and browned.
    Makes 20 to 30, depending on size.
    Serve warm with cinnamon sugar or syrup, if desired.
