Homemade Tomato Sauce - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 large onion, chopped (1 c.)
    1 clove garlic, minced
    1/4 c. olive oil or vegetable oil
    1 (2 lb. 3 oz.) can Italian tomatoes
    1 (6 oz.) can tomato paste
    2 tsp. leaf basil, crumbled
    1 tsp. salt
    dash of sugar
    1 c. water
Preparation
    Saute onion and garlic in oil until soft in a large saucepan; stir in tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, salt, sugar and water. Heat to bubbling; reduce heat.
    Simmer, uncovered, stirring frequently, 45 minutes or until sauce has thickened.
    Yield:
    5 cups.
